A father has been sentenced to life imprisonment for raping his 12-year-old daughter in Bhujpur area of Fatikchhari in Chittagong. The accused was sentenced to life imprisonment and fined Tk 20,000 and sentenced to 3 years imprisonment for non-payment. He was also sentenced to 5 years imprisonment and a fine of Tk 5,000 and 3 months imprisonment for non-payment. The court ruled that the two sentences would run concurrently.
Judge Munshi Abdul Majid of the Women and Child Abuse Suppression Tribunal-7 handed down the verdict on Tuesday, said Khandaker Ariful Alam, Public Prosecutor (PP) of the Women and Child Abuse Suppression Tribunal-7.
He said the court ruled that the two sentences would run concurrently. The accused was present in the court when the verdict was announced. He was later sent to jail. In June 2019, the father raped his daughter at home. Later, the girl's mother filed a case with the Bhujpur police station. In October 2019, the police filed a chargesheet against the accused. In March 2020, the court framed charges against the accused and ordered the trial to begin. 11 people have testified in the case.
He said the plaintiff had earlier applied to the court to withdraw the charges against the accused. But the state did not support it. The matter is very disgusting and sad. This crime needs to be punished.
