Expressing hope, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that the light of knowledge that will spread from Dhaka University will enlighten other universities of the country as well and start building skilled manpower for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

She said this while addressing an international conference on the occasion of the centenary of Dhaka University on Thursday evening. She became virtually connected to the Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate building of Dhaka University through video conference from Ganobhaban.

Describing Dhaka University as a beacon for all the achievements of the Bengali nation, the Prime Minister said, "My only wish is to build the human resources to keep pace with the world, starting from Dhaka University." As many universities as we are doing in the whole of Bangladesh will follow it and in that way we will take the country forward.

Inaugurating the international conference titled 'Celebrating the Hundred Years of the University of Dhaka: Reflections from the Alumni - International and National', the Prime Minister said, "I want Dhaka University to always play a leading role.

Referring to her and the government's goal to restore the lost glory of Dhaka University, Sheikh Hasina said, "Dhaka University is one of the most respected universities in our country. So its former glory will come back again.

She said, "There will be practice of knowledge, there will be research, there will be expansion of education - that is what we want. May we keep pace with the world in the forthcoming Fourth Industrial Revolution. And that can be done by Dhaka University.

Sheikh Hasina said, Dhaka University is an institution which has shown us the way in every achievement. Therefore, his government is implementing various projects with the aim of making this university more beautiful and developed.

She also mentioned the expansion of various faculties and departments under the adopted master plan so that this traditional Dhaka University can be developed as a university based on modern knowledge and technology in the future.

In the inaugural ceremony of this glorious centenary celebration of '1921 to 2021', the Minister of Education Dr. Dipu Moni delivered the special guest speech. Prominent economist Professor Rehman Sobhan presented the keynote address. Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Md. Akhtaruzzaman presided over the function. Provisi (Education) Dr. ASM Maksud Kamal thanked the program and another Provisi (Administration) Prof. Dr. Muhammad Samad recited the citation. Conference convener Professor Dr. convener. Imtiaz Ahmed conducted the program.
