Prime Minister and Leader of the House Sheikh Hasina has said that despite the economic downturn in many other countries due to the coronavirus situation, Bangladesh has been able to avoid it to a large extent. Due to the special measures taken by the government to deal with the human life and economic crisis, it has been possible to keep the economic situation in the country normal including the coronavirus situation.
The Prime Minister was responding to separate questions from ruling party MP Habibur Rahman and Jatiya Party MP Raushan Ara Mannan during the question and answer session scheduled for her in the 11th session of the 11th National Assembly on Wednesday. Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury presided over the question and answer session.
The Prime Minister said Bangladesh will be the 25th largest economy in the world by 2035 if the kind of economic development that Bangladesh is going through now continues as per the World Economic League Table 2021 of the Center for Economics and Business Research, a British economic research organization. The report basically predicts the growth rate of any country's economy in the next year and in the next 15 years. According to the 2020 index, Bangladesh is the 41st largest economy in the world.
Sheikh Hasina said Bangladesh's economic growth in 2020 is 5.24 percent. In 2019, the growth was 8.15 percent. Which was the highest growth in the history of the country.
She said the government has been dealing with the Corona situation cautiously from the beginning. That is why Bangladesh has been relatively successful in controlling the number of cases of cod, mortality and economic losses.
Mentioning that the work of collecting 30 million doses of corona vaccine is underway, Sheikh Hasina said that corona vaccine will be started soon.
Replying to another question from Jatiya Party's Shamim Haider Patwari, the Prime Minister said the government has taken various initiatives to create new employment opportunities for the expatriates who came to Bangladesh during the Corona period and were dismissed.
