At least 10-12 people, including women, were injured in a clash between supporters of two councilor candidates in Tangail's Bhunapur municipal election.
The incident took place at Kutubpur Government Primary School Center in Ward No. 1 of the municipality around 11:30 am on Saturday.
Later, supporters of ostrich symbol councilor candidate Zahidul Islam protested over the issue. At one stage, Anwar Hossain's supporters drove Jahidul's agents and supporters out of the center and launched a surprise attack on Jahidul Islam's supporters in the presence of the executive magistrate. At least 10-12 people, including women, were injured in the incident. After the news, the law enforcers brought the situation under control.
The injured have been rescued and admitted to Bhunapur Upazila Health Complex. Meanwhile, polling was temporarily suspended at the polling center. About an hour later, when the situation came under control, voting resumed. Shahinul Islam, presiding officer in charge of the Kutubpur center in Ward 1 of the municipality, said there was a clash between supporters of the two councilor candidates.
Later, members of the law enforcement brought the situation under control. Voting was suspended for about an hour. Later, when the situation calmed down, voting resumed.
