Two suicide bombers struck near the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, killing at least 28 people and wounding 73 others on Thursday.
Khalid al-Muhanna, a spokesman for the country's interior ministry, said a suicide bomber first arrived in the area and described himself as "very ill." Then, with the help of others, he detonated a bomb strapped to his body. The second bomber struck shortly after noon as more people gathered to help the wounded. A large number of people were killed.
He added that as the venue is a commercial area, there is always a crowd of people there.
Immediately after the incident, Iraqi security authorities met to review the situation. So far no group or individual has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Iraq has been relatively calm for the past few months
