Indian High Commissioner Vikram Doraiswamy has officially handed over 2 million doses of Oxford-Astrageneca vaccine to Bangladesh as a gift from the Government of India.

Foreign Minister Dr. through a ceremony at the state guest house Padma on Thursday afternoon. Vikram Doraiswamy handed over the vaccines to AK Abdul Momen and Health Minister Zahid Malek.

At the handover ceremony, the ambassador said it was part of a commitment made at the highest level by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and part of India's first policy towards its neighbors.

As a mutual friend, Bangladesh and India will fight together against a deadly virus like Kovid-19, the Indian ambassador said.

Earlier, around 2:15 pm on Thursday, a 2 million dose of Oxford-AstraZeneca ticker sent as a gift by the Government of India arrived in Dhaka on a special Air India flight.

According to the Health Department, the official immunization will start on January 27 or 28 at a Corona Dedicated Hospital in the capital Dhaka. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina can virtually attend the event.

On the first day, 20 to 25 people from different walks of life will be vaccinated directly along with the health workers involved in the treatment of corona patients. Four to five hundred people will be vaccinated at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, Mugda Medical College and Hospital, Kurmitola General Hospital and Bangladesh-Kuwait Friendship Hospital for seven days. Then mass vaccination will start.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will formally inaugurate the vaccination program. Two lakh doses for two days every month and 60 lakh doses for the first month.
