About 60 houses were burnt in the fire in Jaldhaka of Nilphamari. The fire broke out at Uttar Beruband village of Ward 8 of Shimulbari Union in the upazila around 10pm on Wednesday. Later, two units of fire service from Jaldhaka and Nilphamari Sadar brought the fire under control in an effort of two and a half hours.
Shimulbari UP chairman Hamidul Haque said 19 families were left destitute in the blaze on Wednesday night. He added that about 60 houses including the victims' houses, barns and kitchens were burnt down. It has caused a loss of about half a crore tk. Chairman Hamidul Haque also said that 7 families have demolished their houses and moved elsewhere.
Shahidul Islam, senior station officer at the Fire Service and Civil Nilphamari, said the fire started from the kitchen of a house. He said two units of the fire service brought the fire under control in an effort of two and a half hours. As of night, we have received a list of 30/32 houses burned by 18 families. However, this number may increase further.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Jaldhaka Police Station Mostafizur Rahman said a police team was sent to the spot after receiving information about the fire.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mahbub Hasan said, "We went to the spot at night and arranged blankets and dry food for the affected families on behalf of the upazila administration."
