The International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) has issued a red alert for the arrest of Prashant Kumar Haldar (PK Haldar). He has fled abroad on charges of smuggling around Tk 3,500 crore.
AIG (Media) Sohail Rana of Bangladesh Police Headquarters told the media that the red alert was issued on Friday. He said Interpol had issued a red alert against PK Haldar today in response to a police request.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has sought the help of Interpol through the Home Ministry to bring PK Haldar back to the country. Interpol wants documents of all the cases filed against PK Haldar in response to the application. Later on December 2, Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge KM Imrul Kayesh issued a warrant for the arrest of PK Haldar through Interpol.
A notice has been sent to Interpol for issuing a red alert against PK Haldar on January 5, the police headquarters told the High Court. On that day, Justice. Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik told the High Court bench of Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Ahmed Sohail.
The ACC is investigating PK Haldar on charges of embezzling and smuggling around Tk 3,500 crore. Bangladesh Bank has seized Tk 3,000 crore of the embezzled money in the wake of a letter from the ACC on August 10. These funds have been transacted as banks of 83 people belonging to 39 institutions.
