During the Chittagong City Corporation (CHC) elections, clashes broke out between the two factions of the Awami League at Lalkhan Bazar in the city. At least 10-12 people were injured on both sides. They were admitted to Chittagong Medical College (CMC) Hospital.
It is learned that Awami League-backed council candidate Abul Hasnat Mohammad Belal of Lalkhan Bazar ward No. 14 and his supporters clashed with rebel candidate Fazal Kabir Ahmed alias F Kabir and his supporters after 8 am. Didarul Alam Masum, general secretary of Awami League in Lalkhan Bazar ward and his sons joined F Kabir against Abul Hasnat. At least 10-12 people from both sides were injured in the chase and counter-chase and brick-throwing by the people of the three sides.
Chittagong North Deputy Commissioner of Police Vijay Kumar Basak confirmed the incident, saying police had rushed to the spot and calmed down both the candidates and their supporters. Currently the situation is under control.
Councilor candidate Abul Hasnat said, "Didarul Alam and his sons along with F Kabir attacked me and my supporters." They prevented my voters from voting properly and beat the agents.
However, F Kabir denied the allegations and said that Abul Hasnat's men attacked him and injured many people.
