Ito Naoki, Japan's ambassador to Dhaka, hopes to begin the process of repatriating Rohingya refugees to Myanmar next year. "We should see the start of the Rohingya repatriation process next year," he said. This is a very important step towards a long-term solution to the Rohingya crisis.
Ito Naoki made the remarks at a 'Decab Talk' organized by the organization of diplomatic reporters, Decab, at the National Press Club on Thursday.
Touhidur Rahman, General Secretary of DCAB, gave a welcome address at the function conducted by Angur Nahar Monti, President of DCAB. Later, the journalists wanted to know from the Japanese ambassador about the strong role of Japan in the Rohingya issue. In response, Ambassador Naoki said that although he did not take a strong position in the international forum, his government was working with the Myanmar government and army.
Regarding Japanese investment in Bangladesh, the Ambassador said that at present 315 Japanese companies are doing business in Bangladesh. For Bangladesh, Japan is the largest exporter in Asia.
Ambassador Naoki said that Bangladesh's economy is doing well even in the face of coronavirus. He said, 'Japan wants to invest more in Bangladesh. Moreover, the geographical location of Bangladesh is the most important in Asia. Japanese investors are therefore interested in investing here.
