Drones have been used for the first time in agricultural development in Comilla. Comilla district officials of Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC) have taken this initiative.

Engineer Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, District Irrigation Area Development Project Director of BADC, informed about the matter on Wednesday.

Mizanur said that according to the information obtained from the drone, it is not possible to cultivate crops in about 150 acres of land in Mollakandi, big and small Harina mouzas of Padua union of Daudkandi upazila of the district due to waterlogging. As a result, the people of the area are being deprived of about 400 tons of paddy production. Its market value is around one crore and 50 lakh rupees. There are such problems in many places in this area. On December 19, the waterlogged area was monitored by drones.

Drone technology is being used for the first time under Comilla-Chandpur-Brakshanbaria District Irrigation Area Development Project under BADC. Through the use of this technology, the current status of the project area and the progress of the project area after implementation can be considered.

The project stakeholders are working for a sustainable solution to the problem by identifying the amount of waterlogged area and its causes through drones. CEGIS, a trust under the Ministry of Water Resources, has provided technical assistance in this regard.
