Coastguard members seized 270,000 pieces of yaba, including trawlers, from the Bay of Bengal adjacent to St. Martin's torn island. They seized the consignment in a raid on Tuesday night.
Teknaf Coast Guard Station Officer Lieutenant Commander Abdullah Al Mahmoud said, "The estimated value of the yaba smuggled from Myanmar is Tk 81 million."
Mander Abdullah Al Mahmoud added, "A Coast Guard team raided the Bay of Bengal near Chhera Island last night on reports that large shipments of yaba were being smuggled by sea from Myanmar." At that time, the Coast Guard members chased the smugglers and they left the trawler and fled. The trawler along with the yaba was later seized.
No one could be arrested in the incident. The yaba and the trawler will be handed over to Teknaf Model Police Station, he said.
