Two people, including a pregnant woman, were killed in a head-on collision between a battery-powered autorickshaw and a brick-filled trolley on their way to the Upazila Health Complex in Noakhali's Chatkhil due to labor pains. The accident took place at around 10 am on Wednesday in Pool No. 11 of Chatkhil-Ramganj Regional Highway in Ward No. 2 of Chatkhil Municipality in Noakhali.
The deceased were identified as Md. Ramnarayanpur village of the upazila. Sohag's wife is nine months pregnant Sultana Akhter and Idris Mia, 40, son of autorickshaw driver Abdul Aziz of East Shoshalia village.
According to locals and police, Sultana Akhter's mother Saleha Akhter took her to Chatkhil Upazila Health Complex in a battery-powered autorickshaw. The autorickshaw carrying them collided head-on with a brick-laden trolley after it reached Pool No. 11 in Chatkhil Municipality. The autorickshaw twisted and fell on the side of the road. Sultana Akhter and autorickshaw driver Idris Mia died on the spot. Sultana Akhter's mother Saleha Akhter (60) was injured in the incident. He was taken to the Upazila Health Complex.
Sultana's mother Saleha Akhter said in a tearful voice, "My daughter Sultana Akhter could not see the face of her first child. My daughter and her unborn child were killed prematurely in a road accident. 'He demanded punishment for the trolley driver.
Chatkhil Upazila Health Complex Residential Medical Officer. Shahidul Islam Nayan said a pregnant woman killed in a road accident, an autorickshaw driver and another woman injured were brought to the hospital. The unborn child of the dead woman also died. The injured woman has been given first aid. He is being sent to Noakhali General Hospital for advanced treatment.
Chatkhil police officer in charge (OC) said. Anwarul Islam said the bodies would be sent to Noakhali General Hospital morgue for autopsy. The trolley damaged in the accident was seized but the driver managed to escape. Trying to get him. An unnatural death case has been registered in this incident.
