In the first phase, the election of Chatmohar municipality of Pabna is being held on Sunday. Voting is going on in EVM. Voting has started from 9 am in 9 polling stations of Chatmohar municipality. It will continue till 4 pm.
However, after the polling began, two independent candidates announced their boycott of the polls, alleging various irregularities, including forcing agents to leave the center.
Independent candidate (BNP rebel) Prof Abdul Mannan (symbol mobile phone) announced the boycott at a press conference in front of Sabuj Sangha Club in Chatmohar at around 9 am. On the other hand, another independent candidate Mirza Rezaul Karim Dulal (Awami League rebel) announced the boycott at a press conference at his residence in Madhya Shalikha Mahalla at 10 am.
They allege that after the polling began in the morning, the agents and workers of the boat beat the agents of other candidates and drove them out. Besides, the people of the Awami League candidate have occupied all the polling stations. After giving fingerprints in the secret room of the EVM in the booth, the boat agents are forcing the voters to vote on the boat. Informing the concerned authorities and administration did not work. So they were forced to boycott the vote.
Returning Officer and District Senior Election Officer Mahbubur Rahman said he was not aware of the boycott. However, the election environment is good. Voters are voting. Action is being taken immediately if any complaint is received. The allegation of polling station occupation is not correct.
It may be mentioned that a total of 12,237 voters are casting their votes in Chatmohar. Four candidates are contesting for the post of mayor, 26 for the post of general councilor and 11 for the post of reserved women councilor.
Adequate RAB, police and Ansar members, including two platoons of BGB and nine executive magistrates, are in charge of security at the polling station.
