Earlier, the Home Minister awarded medals to a total of 59 people in four categories in recognition of their heroic and meritorious work in various activities of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in 2020. Among the recipients, 10 have been awarded Border Guard Bangladesh Medal (BGBM), 20 have been awarded Presidential Border Guard Medal (PBGM), 10 have been awarded Border Guard Bangladesh Medal Service (BGBMS) and 19 have been awarded Presidential Border Guard Medal Service (PGBMS).
He said the BGB has an important and great responsibility to protect the country's borders. Despite various limitations, the BGB's success in protecting the border and preventing smuggling, drug trafficking and trafficking in women and children is commendable.
In particular, the BGB has been able to show special achievements in preventing the smuggling of yaba, phencidyl and other drugs. The Home Minister also mentioned that the BGB is playing a commendable role in the country's constructive work including maintaining law and order.
He further said that the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working sincerely for the overall welfare of the BGB and for building the BGB as a modern border force. BGB is in the process of increasing its sophisticated equipment and manpower by adding to its organizational structure.
The BGB has already been declared a three-dimensional force by the Prime Minister with the inauguration of the BGB Air Wing and the addition of two state-of-the-art helicopters. A number of steps have also been taken for the welfare of BGB members at all levels. As a result, BGB activities will gain more momentum and will be able to achieve more success.
