Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov have jointly said that the United States should return to the Iran nuclear deal unconditionally. In addition, sanctions against Iran must be lifted.
The foreign ministers of China and Russia made the remarks at a virtual meeting between Iran and the five nations on Monday. The foreign ministers of Britain, France and Germany also attended the meeting. The virtual meeting was chaired by Joseph Borel, Head of Foreign Policy at the European Union.
During the meeting, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that the main reason for the challenges posed by Iran's nuclear program is the unilateral withdrawal of the United States from the nuclear deal and the pursuit of a policy of maximum pressure. He called on the United States to fully implement the terms of the nuclear deal.
At the meeting, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov made it clear that the United States would return to the nuclear deal without conditions and would not be able to impose any preconditions.
Our allies and we all want to do something meaningful," he said. It is in the interest of all of us.
