Prominent people have suggested the voluntary resignation of the Election Commission headed by KM Nurul Huda over allegations of serious misconduct. They said the commission has set a record of all irregularities so far. The Election Commission, as a constitutional body, has never had such irregularities before. Therefore, the members of the commission should resign out of moral responsibility. Speakers at an online press conference called on 42 prominent citizens to send a petition to the president to take action against the Huda Commission. Supreme Court lawyer presented the details of the application at the virtual press conference. Shahdin Malik.

Taking part in the discussion, Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) Executive Director Dr. Iftekharuzzaman said, "I agree with the request made by the eminent citizens to the President." Because the current Election Commission is directly involved in financial irregularities, corruption and misconduct. Besides, the Election Commission has always been more or less controversial in Bangladesh.

But what the current commission is doing has never happened before. Such an example has never been seen before. I think this commission has broken all previous records. According to him, the Election Commission is a constitutional body. Its importance has been insulted and stigmatized. "We have appealed to the president," he said. Besides, the government will also appeal to the Prime Minister. The president will make the decision subject to negotiation. Hopefully, the government will consider the main issue. And if the decision is not taken, hopefully, the election commissioners and the chief election commissioner can voluntarily retire. Or some may resign from the moral position.

Dr. Shahdin Malik said financial irregularities, corruption and serious election malpractice should be investigated by the Supreme Judicial Council. They hope the president will then remove the current election commission for irregularities in the wake of the investigation. In response to a question, he said that at present the democratic system has collapsed. Now there is no election. Now the selection is the election game. The election that is taking place now is not desirable for anyone. The President will respond to the allegations made in our petition.

In response to another question, Shahdin Malik said, "I have done what I need to do legally." If you do not respond, we appealed to the President and we acted as citizens. And the rest will be evaluated by the people. As a result, a place of accountability was created.

Asked why he had not complained earlier, he said, "If I had done it earlier, maybe one or two complaints would have been received." But several of the current allegations are serious. And these allegations are increasing day by day.

Sujan's secretary said. Badiul Alam Majumder said, they have made these allegations in full law and in accordance with the constitution. Now the Election Commission needs to step down voluntarily. Because they have betrayed the blood of freedom fighters and Bangabandhu.

Asif Nazrul, a professor at Dhaka University, said the issue of legitimacy of previous elections was a big one. Because, the election should be held on that day. But we saw the vote last night. I have seen this information in various media including BBC. So it is natural to question the legitimacy of the last elections.

Local government expert Professor Tofail Ahmed said, "I considered the elections held as political." But the corruption of the Election Commission is not political. It is a constitutional institution. It has to be judged.

Former secretary Abdul Latif Mandal said, “I have worked in Bangabhaban for a long time. There is considerable doubt as to whether the application of 42 citizens will go from the President's Office to the Prime Minister's Office.
