A constable has been caught by the Detective Branch (DB) police while selling arms in Chittagong. His name is Swarup Barua. He was working in Chittagong Industrial Police. He was fired after the incident.
He was arrested on Friday night in front of the Zila Parishad Market of Kotwali Police Station in the city. He was then kept in the city detective police office under strict secrecy. The matter came to light at night when he was produced in court on Saturday.
Industrial Police Chittagong Superintendent of Police. Solaiman said Swarup Barua was on a five-day leave. He was dismissed after receiving news of his arrest. A departmental case is pending against him. The matter is being investigated.
According to city police sources, based on secret information, city detective police came to know that a person was waiting in front of the district council market to sell arms. Swarup Barua was later arrested in a raid.
He was searched and a revolver was recovered. After getting the identity of the police member, Swarup was kept in the office of the city detective police under strict secrecy.
Detective Sub-Inspector (SI) Belal Uddin filed a case under the Arms Act with the Kotwali Police Station on Saturday. In this case, Swarup Barua has been sent to Chittagong Central Jail through the court.
