A court has sentenced Col (retd) Shahid Uddin Khan to nine years in prison on charges of income tax evasion and giving false information.

Judge Mohammad Nazrul Islam of Dhaka's No. 10 Special Judge's Court pronounced the verdict on Sunday. The court issued an arrest warrant against the accused Shahid Uddin as he had been absconding since the beginning of the case.

The accused Shahid Uddin Khan was sentenced to one year imprisonment under section 164, three years imprisonment under section 165 and five years imprisonment under section 166. After the sentence of one section is over, the sentence of another section will start. In that case the accused will have to serve 9 years imprisonment.

Assistant Tax Commissioner Sheikh Ali Hasan filed a case on September 25, 2019 in Dhaka's tax zone-9 alleging income tax evasion. On September 28, the court framed charges against him and ordered the trial to begin. During the trial of the case, the court took the testimony of 11 people.

The court recently sentenced the retired army officer and his wife to life imprisonment in an arms case.
