Rajshahi University Professor of Crop Science and Technology. Ali Asghar received a death threat through a letter and lodged a general diary (GD) with the police asking for security. After receiving the letter in the morning last Thursday (December 24), he lodged a GD with the Boalia police station in the evening. On Friday (December 25), the officer-in-charge of Boalia police station, Sub-Inspector (SI) Sultana GD, confirmed the matter.
Professor Ali Asghar mentioned in the GD that he received an anonymous letter threatening to kill in the letterbox of his residence in Sagarpara around 9 am on Thursday. The letter said there would be no benefit in his case. He will not have any job. The letter told him to be quiet.
He further said in the GD that he had filed a writ petition in the High Court on August 18, 2019 regarding the appointment of teachers in the Department of Crop Science and Technology of Rajshahi University. On the basis of that petition, the appointment of three teachers of the department was canceled by the decision of the High Court on January 29, 2020.
Shamsun Nahar is one of the three teachers whose appointment was canceled. Mukhtar Hussain and Rezvi Ahmed Bhuiyan. The writ petition is currently pending in the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court. Earlier on December 6, Professor P. Ali Asghar had lodged another GD with Motihar police station alleging that he had received death threats.
