Syed Mahbub-e-Khoda Dewanbagi, the founder and proprietor of Dewanbagh Durbar Sharif in the capital Motijheel, is no more (Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi rajiun). He died at 6:48 a.m. Monday. He was 70 years old at the time of his death. His death has been confirmed on Dewanbagh Sharif's Facebook page.
Family sources of the deceased told the media that Syed Mahbub-e-Khoda Dewanbagi had a stroke at his home around 7.45 am today. He was later pronounced dead at United Hospital. His body was taken to Arambagh.
According to the information given on the website of Dewanbagh Darbar Sharif, the name of Dewanbagi Pir is Mahbub-e-Khoda. However, he is known as 'Dewanbagi'. He was born on 14 December 1949 in Bahadurpur village of Ashuganj upazila of Brahmanbaria. His father's name was Syed Abdur Rashid Sardar. Mother Syeda Jobeda Khatun. He is the youngest of six brothers and two sisters. He studied from Karimia Alia Madrasa in Talshahar to Fazil.
Dewanbagi Pir received the bayat from Abul Fazal Sultan Ahmed Chandrapuri, the founder of Chandrapara Darbar in Faridpur. Dewanbagi then married his daughter Hamida Begum. Due to this he got caliphate from his father-in-law.
A few days later, he built a dormitory at Dewanbagh in Narayanganj and introduced himself as the Sufi emperor. Gradually his followers continue to grow. At one stage, Dewanbagi is conducting activities at 147 Arambagh in Motijheel with a permanent court.
