A Juba League leader has been killed in a robbery in Laxmipur.
The incident took place at Andhar Manik village in Tewariganj union of Sadar upazila on Friday morning.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Monir Hossain, 32, son of Ali Ahmed of the area and was in charge of Juba League in Ward 7 of Tewariganj Union.
According to police and local sources, Juba League leader Monir Hossain withdrew Tk 200,000 from the bank on Thursday to keep the house in the brick field. At around 2.30 pm, a group of 10 to 12 robbers broke into the roof of his house and held everyone hostage.
When they shouted, the robbers beat and stabbed Monir Hossain and his wife and seriously injured them. They looted gold ornaments and valuables including two lakh rupees in cash.
Upon receiving the news, the locals rescued Monir and his wife and brought them to the District Sadar Hospital. Later, when the situation deteriorated, Monir died on the way to Dhaka. Monir's wife Monowara Begum Milon was seriously injured in the attack.
Sadar Police Station OC Azizur Rahman Mia said businessman Monir was killed and his wife was injured in the attack. Police are continuing their operation against those involved in the incident. He said the case was being prepared at the police station.
