Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has inaugurated 20 new stations and 6 regional passport offices of the fire service. He inaugurated them by joining online from Ganobhaban on Sunday.
As a result, the total number of fire stations in the country stands at 456. They were officially inaugurated at the office of the Fire Service and Civil Defense Department at Fulbaria in the capital.
In her speech before the inauguration, the Prime Minister said that the fire caused a lot of loss of life and property. There were not so many fire stations before our government was formed. We have taken a plan to build one fire station in each upazila of the country. We are working to make people's lives safer.
Mentioning that the fire service is being made efficient with modern technology, the Prime Minister said that any problem can be solved by calling 999. After a group of students went missing in Himchhari recently, they called 999 and were rescued by the police with the help of the Air Force. This means that people can be rescued from any danger by using modern technology. We will build the fire service that way.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said there are now 436 fire stations in the country, bringing the total number to 456 through 20. Under the direction of the Prime Minister, we are working to build one fire station in each upazila of the country.
The Home Minister said that the passport related services will be closer to the citizens through the new 6 Regional Passport Offices. At present, there are 72 passport offices and 27 immigration checkpoints in 64 districts of the country, he said. He mentioned that after the introduction of e-passport as the first country in South Asia, work is also being done to introduce e-visa.

Shahiduzzaman, Director General of Fire Service and Civil Defense Brigadier General Sajjad Hossain, Inspector General of Prisons Brigadier General Mominur Rahman Mamun and other senior officials were present.
