On the last day of submission of nomination papers for the municipal elections, 18 mayoral candidates, 142 councilor candidates and 48 reserved councilor candidates have filed nomination papers in three municipalities of Dinajpur. The second round of municipal elections will be held in Dinajpur Municipality, Birampur Municipality and Birganj Municipality on January 18.
On the last day of submission of nomination papers on Sunday, besides the party candidate, 4 candidates of Awami League and one rebel candidate of BNP have filed nomination papers. Nomination papers have also been submitted by a Jamaat leader, one from the Jatiya Party and other parties and independent candidates.
Awami League candidate Rashed Parvez, BNP district candidate, BNP candidate, Central BNP co-organizing secretary (Rangpur division) and current mayor Syed Jahangir Alam, Awami League rebel candidate Tahidul, district Awami League rebel candidate Haq Sarkar, Ahmed Shafi Rubel of the Jatiya Party, Meherul Islam of the Communist Party of Bangladesh, Habibur Rahman Rana of the Islamic Movement of Bangladesh and independent candidate Kazi Ashraful Islam.
Awami League candidate Akkas Ali, BNP candidate Humayun Kabir, Awami League rebel candidate Alhaj Liaquat Ali Sarkar Tutul and Upazila Awami League organizing secretary Mushfiqur Rahman, BNP rebel candidate former mayoral candidate BNP have filed nomination papers for the post of mayor in Birampur municipality. Adviser Azadul Islam Azad and independent candidate Advocate Nuruzzaman.
Awami League candidate Nur Islam Nur, acting general secretary of Upazila Awami League, BNP candidate Mokarram Hossain Palash, member secretary of Municipal Juba Dal, rebel candidate of Awami League Municipal President and current mayor Mosharraf Hossain Babul, Jamaat leader and Former mayor Maulana. Hanif and Shah Alam of the Islamic Movement of Bangladesh.
Besides, 70 candidates have filed nomination papers for 12 councilor posts in Dinajpur municipality and 19 candidates for 4 reserved seats.
In Birampur municipality, 31 candidates have filed nomination papers in 9 wards and 16 candidates in 3 reserved seats. 41 candidates have filed nomination papers for the post of councilor in 9 wards of Birganj municipality and 13 candidates have filed nomination papers for 3 reserved seats.
