In Rangpur's Mithapukur, a housewife was allegedly gang-raped after being called to fix the land deeds. Despite filing a case at the police station, the police could not arrest the rapists. The rapists are threatening the housewife to take up the opposite case. The housewife is fleeing the house in the face of their constant threats. Meanwhile, in another incident, a case has been filed with the police station for attempting to rape a fourth class student.
According to police and local sources, the housewife and her husband took a mortgage of 66 per cent land from Tofazzal Hossain of West Muradpur village in Mirzapur union of Mithapukur upazila for Tk 2 lakh five years ago. Tofazzal Hossain also made a written stamp at that time. The housewife and her husband have been occupying the property. On November 10, zamindata Tofazzal Hossain took another 40,000 tk from them. But, he kept on procrastinating to stamp.
At one stage, Tofazzal Hossain's associates Abu Taher and Rabiul Hasan Bishu took the original stamp of Tk 2 lakh from the housewife saying that they would help her to write a stamp of Tk 40,000. Tofazzal Hossain's accomplices Abu Taher and Rabiul Hasan Bishu then called the housewife on November 22 and November 27 and raped her. The video of the rape shows the fear of spreading it.
When the housewife lodged a complaint at the Bairatihat police investigation center, those involved grabbed the UP member and stopped the investigating police officer through him, assuring him of a rural solution. But the perpetrators chased the housewife out of the village calling her a bitch, promising to resolve the incident locally. Later, the housewife filed a case against 3 people at Mithapukur police station for rape.
On the other hand, an attempt was made to rape a fourth class student of Bara Hazratpur Union of the upazila. A case has been filed in this regard. It is learned that the student was playing outside the house with other children on the morning of December 25. The child in the next house goes to the next house to drink water.
At that time, Dulu Mia (45) of Serudanga Khamar village grabbed the child from behind and tried to rape him. Dulu Mia ran away when the other children ran at her screams. The child's father filed a case with the police on Friday night. However, the police could not arrest the accused.
Mithapukur Police Station OC Amiruzzaman said a case has been registered in connection with the rape of a housewife. The accused could not be arrested as they were fugitives. In the incident of attempted rape of a fourth class student, he said, operations are going on in different places to catch the only accused in the case.
