In the first phase of the municipal election, the vote for the post of mayor was 65.06 percent. The highest turnout of 85.31 percent was in Kuakata of Patuakhali. The lowest turnout of 40.87 percent was in Chittagong's Sitakunda.
The data was obtained from the Election Commission (EC) office on Tuesday. Electronic voting machines (EVMs) have been used in all the 24 municipalities of the first phase.
Out of the 24 municipalities held on Monday, the results were announced in Chalna municipality of Dakop upazila of Khulna due to the death of a candidate the day before, but the results were announced again yesterday. The Awami League candidate has also won in Chalna. In all, the Awami League nominated candidates have won 19 seats. BNP has won in two. Independent candidates have won in three municipalities. In all, the BNP got 13.5 percent votes for the post of mayor. Apart from Chalna, in 12 of the remaining 23 municipalities, the candidates for paddy sheaf have lost their bail. In contrast, the boat vote was 64 percent.
Among the municipalities where BNP candidates have lost their bail are Chatmohar in Pabna, Badarganj in Rangpur, Baralekha in Moulvibazar, Dhamrai in Dhaka, Gafargaon in Mymensingh, Bakerganj and Wazirpur in Barisal, Katakhali in Rajshahi and Patuakharaj in Rajshahi.
