Fifty journalists were killed around the world in 2020 for reporting on structural crime, corruption and environmentalists. 387 people have been imprisoned, which is rare in history. Most of them have been killed in countries where there is no conflict.
Reporters Without Borders (RSF) said in a report on Tuesday.
According to the report, more journalists were killed in planned killings in 2020 than in 2019. The number of such murders has risen from 63 per cent in the previous year to 84 per cent this year.
Mexico, India and Pakistan are the top three countries for killing journalists.
