A mobile court has sentenced Ataur Rahman Palin, 40, to one year in prison for cutting soil from a government land in Noakhali's Dwip Upazila Hatia. He was also fined one lakh rupees and sentenced to three more months in jail for non-payment.
The incident took place at Birbiri village of Jahajmara union in the upazila on Thursday morning. The convicted Pauline Hatiyar is the son of Gias Uddin of Birbiri village in Ward 4 of Jahajmara Union.
According to the police, a government khas land was allotted in Ward No. 4 of Jahajmara Union to build houses for the homeless in Mujibvarsha. Upazila Executive Officer. He was later sentenced to one year in prison by Executive Magistrate Mazharul Islam. Besides, another one lakh rupees fine and three months imprisonment has been given for non-payment.
