Hifazat-e-Islam Bangladesh has demanded the dismissal of Kushtia Superintendent of Police (SP) SM Tanvir Arafat. Hefazat's central organizing secretary Maulana Azizul Haque made the demand in a statement sent to Islamabad media on Friday.

Maulana Azizul Haque condemned and protested the recent statement of the Superintendent of Police. Superintendent of Police Tanvir Arafat addressed a protest rally at Kaya College in Kumarkhali on December 21 against the vandalism of the sculpture of revolutionary Bagha Jatin in Kushtia. For those who want to raise questions about Bangabandhu and the constitution of Bangladesh, he proposed three alternatives at the meeting.

In the proposal, the superintendent of police said, "One, I will break my arm, I will have to go to jail." Two, be absolutely silent, you can not ask any question about the independence of the country and the history of Bangabandhu. Three, if you don't like Bangladesh, then you are welcome to go to your beloved Pakistan.

Maulana Azizul Haque Islamabadi said, "The SP of Kushtia is threatening to break the hand of the so-called fundamentalists." Attempts are being made to sabotage the demolition of the sculpture and impose responsibility on the clerics to gain political advantage.

A statement demanding the dismissal of Superintendent of Police SM Tanvir Arafat said, "Police are employees of the republic or servants of the people." They are engaged in maintaining the security and law and order of the people. It is not the responsibility of the police to judge or punish. The responsibility of the police is to prevent crime and arrest the culprits and send them to court. But the police cannot break the hand of any criminal, nor can they imprison any criminal without trial. We call on the government to immediately dismiss the SP.
