The Coast Guard seized 15 tonnes of Jatka from the Dhaka-bound passenger launch MV Karnafuli-13 in a raid at the mouth of the Meghna River in Chandpur.
Members of the Coast Guard Chandpur station conducted the operation last Thursday (December 24) at around 2 am. Lieutenant Khandaker Munif, a Coast Guard media officer, confirmed the information to the media on Friday (December 25th) at noon.
Lt. Khandaker Munif Taki said the Coast Guard has been playing an important role in preventing the killing of Jatka. Following this, Bangladesh Coast Guard Chandpur conducted this operation. Approximately 15 manas (600 kg) of jatka were seized during the operation.
The seized jatkas were distributed among the orphans and destitute in the presence of Executive Magistrate Md Ujjwal Hossain and Upazila Assistant Fisheries Officer Md Mahbub Rashid.
