There are allegations of taking money from Awami League-backed councilor candidates in the Santahar municipality election in Bogra's Adamdighi. The Santahar Municipal BNP has recommended to the district committee to expel four BNP leaders, including two BNP councilor candidates, from the party over the allegations.

A letter in this regard was sent to the Bogra district BNP committee on Tuesday. Convener of Santahar Municipal BNP Mojibur Rahman has confirmed the matter of sending a letter to Bogra District Committee.

The letter, signed by Santahar Municipal City BNP convener Mojibur Rahman and joint convener Rafiqul Islam, said Santahar Municipal BNP convening committee member Zahidul Islam and Municipal Juba Dal member Mahamudul Alam collected party nomination papers for the post of councilor in ward number seven in the Santahar municipal election. Later, the two councilor candidates, in collaboration with Mamunur Rashid, former president of the Municipal Juba Dal, and Mahfuzul Haque, a member of the Thana BNP's convening committee, took money from Abdul Quddus, the only Awami League candidate. For this reason, the two of them refrained from submitting their nomination papers on December 20.

As a result, the only candidate of the Awami League, Abdul Quddus, is going to win without contest. Then on December 21, an emergency meeting of the Santahar Municipal BNP was held. A letter has been sent to the district committee recommending the expulsion of four people, including the two candidates mentioned in the meeting.

However, Zahidul Islam and Mahmudul Alam, who wanted to be candidates from the BNP, denied taking money.

Mahfuzul Haque, a member of the convening committee of the upazila BNP, denied being involved in the money transaction, saying, "A section of the BNP is conspiring out of jealousy of my popularity." They have brought this false accusation against me to ruin my popularity.

Bogra district BNP joint convener Fazlul Bari Talukder Belal confirmed the matter on his mobile phone and said they had been protested. Once the answer is received, action will be taken accordingly.
