The 51st BGB-BSF Director General level conference of Bangladesh and Indian border guards has started in Guwahati, the capital of Assam state of India.
BGB Director General Major General Mohammad is leading the 11-member Bangladesh delegation. Safinul Islam and the 12-member Indian delegation are led by BSF Director General Rakesh Asthana.
For the first time in four decades, a border conference between the BGB and the BSF has been held outside the Indian capital, Delhi.

The 11-member Bangladesh delegation led by Safinul Islam entered India through the ICP of Tamabil (Sylhet) -Dauki (Meghalaya) in Sylhet. There, Hardeep Singh, IG, BSF Meghalaya Frontier Headquarters, welcomed the BGB Director General with a hearty reception and a guard of honor.
After that the Bangladesh delegation including the BGB Director General reached Guwahati by BSF helicopter and BSF Director General Rakesh Asthana greeted the BGB Director General with flowers.
The conference will focus on stopping the killing of Bangladeshi nationals at the border, curbing smuggling, strengthening coordination between the two border guards and various other border-related issues.
The conference will be formally concluded on December 25 with the signing of the joint negotiation documents.
