Driver and helper tried to rape a student on a moving bus from Sylhet to Diraigami. The student jumped from the bus to protect his dignity and fell down seriously injured. The villagers of Majlishpur in Dirai municipal town have protested in front of the police station.
The incident took place around 7:30 pm on Saturday. The seriously injured student has been taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
According to the relatives of the student, the student was coming from Lamakazi to Dirai by bus (number Sylhet J-110723) which left for Dirai from Sylhet. The driver and helper tried to rape the girl as there were no other passengers in the bus when she came near Sujanagar village of Dirai municipality. Then the girl jumped from the bus and fell on the road to protect her dignity.
When the villagers took the injured girl to Dirai Hospital, the doctor on duty sent her to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital. The girl's home is in Dirai municipal town. The villagers of Majlishpur protested and came to the police station demanding justice.
Hemranjan Das of Majlishpur village said the villagers went to the police station and demanded justice for the incident. The police OC said he would quit his job if he could not arrest the culprit by nightfall. Ask him out well. Later the villagers calmed down. A written complaint has been lodged with the police station.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dirai Police Station Ashraful Islam said the agitated people from Majlishpur came to the police station. The bus driver and helper mistreated the girl, they said. The girl was injured while getting off. The bus has already been detained. The driver-helper has fled.
Sunamganj Superintendent of Police. Mizanur Rahman said at 9:15 pm, the girl said the bus driver and helper had treated her indecently. The girl was forced to get off the bus and was seriously injured. He was first shifted to Dirai Hospital and later to Sylhet. The case has been recorded. Attempts are being made to arrest the accused.
