The Tejgaon division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police (DB) has arrested six people with domestic weapons while preparing for a robbery in the Hatirjheel area of the capital. The operation was carried out in the metropolitan project area of Hatirjheel on Tuesday evening. Six knives were seized from them at that time.
The arrested are Selim Mia, Alamin Hossain alias Sajib, Rafiqul Islam Rony alias Disco Rony, Robin Hossain, Santu Mia and Masud Rana alias Fazlul Haque.
Shahadat Hossain Suma, additional deputy commissioner of DB's Tejgaon zonal team, said they were arrested on the basis of secret information. The arrested are members of an organized gang of robbers.
They roamed the surrounding areas including Hatirjheel, Gulshan and Badda at night and looted money and belongings by taking the pedestrians hostage at gunpoint. They also looted goods by raiding different houses. A case has been filed in Hatirjheel police station over the incident.
