A goldsmith named Moharram Hossain (27) was strangled to death by miscreants at Chatmohar in Pabna. The incident happened on Wednesday night. Police recovered his body on Thursday morning. The deceased was identified as Abul Hossain of Chaikola Paschimpara village under Chaikola union of Mahram upazila.
According to police and locals, Muharram Hossain used to work as a craftsman in Amjad Hossain's gold shop at Chaikola crossroads and slept in the shop every night. Locals started shouting as he did not wake up on Thursday morning. Even then, without getting any response, the locals opened the shutters of the shop and saw his body. When the police station was informed later, the police came and recovered the body.
Chatmohar Circle Assistant Superintendent of Police Sajib Shahreen said police rushed to the spot and recovered the body. There were no signs of injuries on his body but a muffler was wrapped around his neck. It is initially thought that sometime on Wednesday night, miscreants strangled Muharram to death. Goods including gold and silver jewelery were not found in the shop. He further said that the amount of goods in the shop is being checked by talking to the shop owner.
The police official said the body would be sent to Pabna General Hospital morgue for autopsy. A case is being filed in this regard.
