At least eight people have been killed in an explosion at an oxygen machine at a private hospital in Turkey's southeastern Gaziantep province. The accident happened on Saturday.
The hospital authorities said in a statement that the accident took place when an oxygen therapy machine used for patients caught fire in the intensive care unit of the Corona unit of Sanco University Hospital.
Hospital authorities said 14 more people were being treated at the intensive care unit after the fire broke out.
Police and fire service members rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control. An investigation has already been launched into the incident.
According to hospital sources, seven people were killed on the spot after the fire broke out. Another died on the way to the hospital. The deceased ranged in age from 65 to 85 years.
Turkish presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin expressed his condolences on Twitter. He also wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
