A magnetic bomb attached to a car has exploded in Afghanistan, killing at least five people. Four of them are doctors.

The incident took place in the capital Kabul on Tuesday. Doctors were driving to the Pul-e-Charkhi prison on the outskirts of Kabul. Police spokesman Ferdous Faramarz said hundreds of Taliban prisoners were being held in the jail.

Police did not say whether the attack was aimed at doctors. Police have not yet identified the fifth person. At least two people were injured in the blast. The blast damaged several nearby homes and shops. No one has claimed responsibility for the attack. However, the activities of Islamic State militants in Kabul in recent months suggest that Islamic State is also behind Tuesday's attack.

The United States has said it will launch rocket attacks on US military installations in Afghanistan on Saturday. No casualties were reported, according to NATO and local provincial officials.

Earlier on Monday, Rahmatullah Nekzad, an Afghan journalist, was shot dead in Ghazni. A car bomb had exploded at an Iraqi police recruiting center at Kisak, killing at least 15 people. Among the dead was a politician Khan Mohammad Wardak.
