On the morning of April 26, he was found unconscious at his home in Dhanmondi. Doctors pronounced him dead after he was taken to Square Hospital.
Anisuzzaman, an academic, writer and national professor, died on 14 May. He was an Emeritus Professor of Bengali Language and Literature at Dhaka University. He took part in the language movement, the mass uprising of 1971 and the war of liberation. Anisuzzaman was suffering from various complications including old age, heart disease, kidney disease, prostate problem, blood infection. Examination of the corona with samples from his body revealed that he was infected with the coronavirus. Morshedul Alam, director of S Alam Group, died on May 22 after contracting coronavirus. Morshedul S Alam is the elder brother of Saiful Alam Masud, the chairman of the group. He was also a director of NRB Global Bank. May 30, the founder of the Shant-Mariam Foundation. Cultural personality, journalist and former director general of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Kamal Lohani died on June 26. He was the head of the news department of the Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra, formed during the Bangladesh War of Independence in 1971. In 2015, the government awarded him the Ekushey Padak for his special contribution to journalism. He died of coronavirus at Sheikh Russell Gastroliver Institute and Hospital in Mohakhali.
Latifur Rahman, a prominent businessman and industrialist of the country and founder of the daily Prothom Alo and The Daily Star, died of old age on July 1. He received the Business for Peace Award in 2012 in recognition of his ethics and social responsibility in business. Sahara Khatun, a member of the Bangladesh Awami League presidium and a lawyer, died on July 9. Who served as the first woman Home Minister of Bangladesh. On June 2, he fell ill due to old age and was first admitted to the United Hospital in Dhaka's Gulshan. Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh founder and acting Amir Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi passed away on September 18. He was also the Chairman of Befaqul Madarisil Arabia Bangladesh and the Director General of Darul Uloom Mueenul Islam, Hathazari. At the age of 103, Shah Ahmad Shafi was suffering from geriatric weakness, diabetes, high blood pressure and shortness of breath. Former Attorney General of Bangladesh, veteran lawyer Barrister Rafiq-ul Haq died on October 24. He entered the legal profession in 1960. In 1989-1990, he served as the Attorney General of Bangladesh. Attorney General Mahbubey Alam died of coronavirus on September 27. He was appointed Attorney General of Bangladesh on 13 January 2009. He started practicing in the High Court in 1975 after graduating in law. He was the President of the Supreme Court Bar Association from 2005-2006. Khandaker Muniruzzaman, acting editor of the daily Sangbad, died of coronavirus on November 24. Nur Hussain Qasemi, Secretary General of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh and Jamiat-e-Ulamaye Islam Bangladesh, passed away on December 13. He was the Vice President of Al Hayatul Ulaya, Senior Vice President of Befaqul Madarisil Arabia Bangladesh and Shaykhul Hadith and Director General of Jamia Madania Baridhara, Dhaka and Jamia Sobhania Mahmud Nagar.
MA Hashem, a prominent industrialist and founder of Partex Group, died in the early hours of December 24 at the Evercare Hospital in the capital. Popular playwright Abdul Quader died at the hospital on December 26. He was suffering from cancer. He was also infected with corona.
