International Volunteer Day will be celebrated in the country on Saturday like every year. This time the coronavirus will be recognized for its contribution to the epidemic as well as for its voluntary contribution to the development of the country. 15 volunteers will be awarded under government and private initiatives.

This day is commonly known as International Volunteer Day (IVD). This day has been observed on 5 December since it was adopted by the UN General Assembly in 1985. It is being observed for the promotion of voluntary organizations and individual volunteers for the purpose of economic and social development through volunteerism.

This year the theme of the day is 'We can volunteer together'. On the occasion of the day, the Department of Youth Development of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, Ministry of Youth and Sports, UNV Bangladesh and Water Aid Bangladesh have taken initiative to recognize the volunteers of the country. Last November, it was announced to give 'IVD Bangladesh Volunteer Award' to 15 volunteers.

In this competition, the first prize will be one lakh rupees, second prize 75 thousand, third prize 50 thousand, fourth prize 30 thousand and fifth prize winner will get 20 thousand rupees. The remaining 10 will also be rewarded. Everyone will be given a crest and a certificate. This award will be given for the cooperation and enthusiasm of the volunteers.

The United Nations says healthcare workers and social workers around the world have come forward to recover from the corona. The World Health Organization has identified that volunteering in every community will be able to address the risk of corona.

UN Under-Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed says volunteers will be able to restore global development by tackling the Corona disaster. In this crisis, it is time to show the impact of volunteers in the local community.
